Its a simple question, "How many calories do I eat to lose weight?" The answer will differ depending on your height, weight, sex and age. The simple measurement to know how many calories you should eat is based on your resting basal metabolism and a simple calculator is all you need to measure this. Click Here for a Basal Metabolism calculator.
Once you input the given info into the calculator, you get the amount of calories your body burns while awake and at rest for the day. So if you are a 46 year old male that is 5' 9" and weighs 190 lbs, and you do nothing all day but sit, you will burn 1820 calories. Now if you sit and eat a 2500 calorie diet every day, guess what? You Gain Weight!
On the bright side, if you eat less than your measured Basal Metabolism, you will lose weight. That's how its done! Now, there are a few caveats. First, don't stop eating, or skip meals or drop below 1400 calories (1200 calories for the Ladies). If your body senses that there is not enough food coming in, it will store what you have as fat. Start slow by eating your Basal Metabolism max, in the example its 1800 calories, spread out over the whole day.
Then after a week drop your calories by 50 and after another week drop by another 50 calories. Check your weight and see how your doing. Then remeasure your Basal Metabolism. The more weight you lose the less calories you need to eat.
To help you track all this you can sign up for my free Wellness Tracker at 40 Something Fitness Wellness Tracking where these measurements are performed and adjusted as you input your meals, exercise, water intake and you can even log whats on your mind.
Keeping track of where you start and what you are doing to get to your goals will keep you focused on achieving them.
